Photo Assignment 6

The assignment was portraits of one, two and three people ... or kats. Our instructor focused on a natural look, that not every potrait has to have a smile. Will post settings for each pic soon.

Photo Assignment 4

Ironically this was taken with my point and shoot in Puerto Rico (Monique's wedding). This was prior to me owning a DSLR. I can't recall the assignment details right now...

These weren't part of the assignment, but amused me.

Braelynn is here (Rosa Chi's baby)!

I need to dig out the details on Braelynn's birth, but wanted to post this picture for Mo. Monique is a very demanding godmother and she should be, wonderful one too. Braelynn is so BEAUTIFUL! Right now she looks a lot like her mommy, but you can see her Daddy budding out soon. And yes she is eyeing Mo's boobs for dinner...

Our newest edition

We started noticing Bunny around our house shortly after the tornado hit downtown ATL, around easter. We contacted all the agencies and the HO association, but no one claimed her. I had to feed her! I know what your thinking, I've gone over the deep end and turned into "that cat lady!"

Ironically, Ben did not want to part with her. So now instead of 3B's (Boo, Bee, and Ben) it has become four. Bunny's offical name is Little Bunny Fu Fu. She has brought us 3 shrews, 1 chipmunk, 1 chimpmunk head, 2 birds, and 1 bunny. She is always waiting for us at the back porch at night and sometimes with a present.

4th of July pictures

I played around with the camera during the 4th of July weekend, I even pulled out the manual for the camera, that is getting serious for me...I never realized how quickly fireworks happen, there was no sipping wine during the fireworks show. The fireworks were low-key, but they did do a couple big ones. We were sitting on some rocks in the river, I'm not sure how I convinced myself to get into a canoe with my new baby (Nikon). Anything for a good picture.

Camera setting: Manual mode, f-stop 8, shutter speed 10, and ISO 200, white balance automatic. I ended up moving the focal point beyond 24, seemed to be more dynamic.

Second Photo Assignment

We offically learned the f word for our second assignment. I of course was flustured everytime the teacher would say f-stop! It took me several series of photos to finally understand the "f word"...and I'm only beginning to understand f-stop's capabilities.

So, week 2 was to utilize f-stop and shutter speed. Now the shutter speed assignment did not go so well for me, you won't be seeing those pictures this post. The f-stop assignment was to take three objects, put them behind each other, and focus on the front object. Apparently, the assignment wasn't totally clear to me because my objects were to close together. These series of pictures below, however, give you the jist of what f-stop can do. As the f-stop increases, the background becomes more clear. It really is what one prefers, as our teacher has told us, but generally when the background is more blurred the focal point goes to the front object.

I have to give props to my very good friend Mary Jensen, who designed the wine label and gave me a bottle of wine (i'm still crossing my fingers for more wine). I tried to be her agent, but she is still to much of a hippie, i luv my hippie though. This wine is made in my hometown (Richland, WA), well very close to it (Benton City, WA).

Week 2, assignment 2, camera mode A, focal length 24:
f-stop 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, and 22 (pictures correspond below).
